Riley DeCandido earned the win on the mound and added a two-run home run at the plate. Jake Colucci earned the save.

Hickory continues torrid turnaround.

Nic Morlang earned the win and struck out six. Luke Bosher, Jack Stephens, Wes Stubbe and Brady Gavin combined for eight hits, seven RBIs and five runs.

WP: Sparks (5-1). LP: Sellers.

Kyle Sparks pitched a complete game for the win. Mehka Hicks, EJ Buna and Ty James all had RBIs for the Chiefs.

Class 5 Region B quarterfinals

#6 Nansemond River 8, #3 Bethel 4

WP: Wolfe.

Cam Bauswell batted 2 for 3 and drove in three runs for the Warriors at War Memorial Stadium. Konner Johnson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs for Nansemond River, which scored five runs in the second inning to erase a 2-0 deficit,

Class 4 Region A first round

#7 Warwick 16, #10 King’s Fork 4

WP: Burnette. LP: Landon.

Warwick achieved 14 hits, including a 4-for-4 performance by Connor Smith. Carson German, Carmello Washington, Michael Bartron and Joe Lesord also had multiple hits.

Cody Miller and Ryan Nolan each had three of the Mustangs’ 14 hits. Four Manor players had two hits apiece.

Class 3 Region A first round

#5 Lakeland 17, #12 Booker T. Washington 1

Scotty Sorey pitched four innings, only giving up two hits and striking out three. Jakobe Little scored two runs and had three of the Cavaliers’ 10 hits.

The shutout enabled the host Blue Devils to advance to play at New Kent Friday evening.

The Rams had 12 hits and no errors as they dominated the Crimson Wave for five innings. Austen Townsend and Kamari Scott led them with two hits each. Four players stole at least two bases, with Sam St. Clair taking three.

Class 6 Region A first round

#3 (East) Grassfield 9, #6 (East) Oscar Smith 0

WP: Bailey (8-2).

Cydney LaFon was 2 for 2 while Mya Davis clubbed a three-run home run. Emma Joy batted 2 for 3 for the Grizzlies. Braelyn Bailey struck out five in four innings.

Calliope James went 3 for 4, and Sam Patterson was 2 for 3. Patterson threw a two-hitter, striking out 14 for the win.

Kachelle Refour went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and scored a run. She also assisted in a double play by catching a pop fly and throwing a runner out at home.

Lana Galloway hit a triple and Jordan Falls hit a home run for the Cavaliers. Rachael Gooch, Galloway, Emma McCluskey and Falls each managed multiple hits for PA.

Emily Miller, Alena Demakas and Cali Megaro combined for six hits and eight RBIs to lead the Hawks.

Jada Olexa went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, a run and a stolen base in the six-inning game. Cameron Wray went 3 for 4 with two runs and three RBIs. Amaya Huskisson went 3 for 4 with a run and two RBIs.

Class 6 Region A first round

#3 (East) Ocean Lakes 5, #6 (East) Oscar Smith 0

Derek Sapone led the Dolphins with two goals and one assist, and Abou Sissoko had a goal and two assists. The Dolphins’ Noah Ridgway and Kaden Sawyer each scored. Zach Meadows and Michael Arzillo worked together to keep a clean sheet.

Ben Mercer scored three goals, while Juan Gutierrez and Jacob Greene each netted one. Jesse Vargas, Gutierrez, Miles Johnson and Greene had assists.

#3 (East) Western Branch 2, #6 (East) Landstown 0

Jayda Sutton scored both goals. Caleigh Burris and Madelynn Harmon had the assists. Reygan White posted the shutout for the Bruins.

Joelle Hare scored three goals for the Warriors and Nathalie Dupree had one at Powhatan Field. The Comets’ goals came from Madison Booker and Devin Smigiel.

The Monarchs’ Kamryn Eccleston and Alyssa Ware both scored at Powhatan Field.

Class 6 Region A semifinals

G-K, Djunaedi 7, Ben Andrews 3, Arnett, Brayden Andrews 3, Maher, Holava; M, Poss 4, Woodlief, Dunnavant, Robertson.

Evan Djunaedi scored seven goals and Ben Andrews and Brayden Andrews netted three each as the Knights rolled into the Class 6 Region A championship game. Kellam, playing its first varsity season, hosts Cosby on Friday for the title.

Girls lacrosse

Class 5 Region A semifinals

First Colonial 14, Cox 7

G: FC, McConnell 8, Kiser 4, Holt, Carini; Cox, Wilson 2, Killian 2, Harhin.

The Patriots advanced to the inaugural Class 5 Region A championship game Friday, thanks to Maggie McConnell’s eight goals, Addison Kiser’s four goals and one assist, and Abby Cawdery’s 11 saves.

Princess Anne 9, Bayside 8

Seven Cavaliers scored goals. Sarah Ellis and Erika Wu each scored two, while five others each contributed one. Goalie Isabel Lamb made 13 saves.

Boys tennis

Class 4 Region A individuals

Grafton junior Rainer Christiansen captured his third consecutive region championship, overpowering Great Bridge freshman JP Zano 6-0, 6-1 at Huntington Park in Newport News.

Christiansen and John Cloud then repeated as the doubles champs, defeating Jamestown’s Ishan Parikh and Jaysen Kang 6-0, 6-2.

The victors earned berths in the state semifinals.

Senior Philip DeWitz clinched the triumph at No. 1 with a 7-5, 7-5 victory. Next, the Dolphins will play a semifinal against Cosby, with a state tournament berth at stake.

#4 Princess Anne 5, #5 Kempsville 0

The host Cavaliers breezed past the Chiefs a day after Harrison Lee repeated his singles title and joined with Zachary Stoney for the doubles crown. Those two and three teammates prevailed in singles against Kempsville.

The top-seeded Hawks dismissed the SunDevils and next will face Princess Anne.

Class 3 Region A individuals

Tabb’s Nicolas Crespo, Lafayette’s Xavier Jones and New Kent’s Ethan Hanson were among the players advancing to the singles semifinals of the tournament at Christopher Newport’s Eyre courts. The singles and doubles champs will gain state semifinal berths.

Girls tennis

Class 4 Region A individuals

Great Bridge sophomore Kayla Kennedy took her second consecutive region singles title, winning the last three games to defeat Jamestown’s Julia Clark 6-2, 6-4 at Huntington Park.

Kennedy earned a state semifinal berth as she looks to repeat that crown, too.

In doubles, Kennedy and Chase London edged defending champs Clark and Lauren Elliott 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-8) for the medal and a spot in the state semis.

Class 6 Region A quarterfinal

Ocean Lakes 5, Landstown 0

The Dolphins advanced to the semifinals as No. 3 player Urvi Jain achieved the clinching victory.
