Dollar Tree laying off nearly 90 workers from Chesapeake headquarters

Dollar Tree is laying off fewer than 90 workers at its Chesapeake headquarters by outsourcing its Enterprise Contact Center, a spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

Dollar Tree, the Chesapeake-based discount retailer, is laying off workers at its headquarters.

The company is eliminating “fewer than 90 positions,” a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement, as it outsources operations at its Enterprise Contact Center.

The layoffs will take effect by June 23, according to an online Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed with the Virginia Employment Commission.

The affected workers will be provided severance pay and outplacement services, the company spokesperson said.

As of Friday afternoon, the spokesperson did not respond to questions about why the layoffs are happening, the function of the contact center or whether more layoffs are coming.

Dollar Tree employs hundreds of employees at its 12-story, 510,000-square-foot Chesapeake office tower, located at 500 Volvo Parkway in the Summit Pointe development. Under the Dollar Tree and Family Dollar brands, the company operates more than 16,000 stores in the United States and Canada and employs more than 200,000 people, according to its website.

The company reported consolidated net sales of $7.72 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022, a 9% increase from the fourth quarter of 2021.
