Bainbridge Avenue in Hampton to be closed for several weeks

Bainbridge Avenue between West County Street and Cameron Street in Hampton will be closed for several weeks beginning Monday.

The road closure will allow time for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District to install water main pipelines as part of a larger project to replace old sewer piping and valves in Phoebus. The replacement pipes will direct sewage to the new Willard Avenue Pump Station.

The new pump station, located at the corner of S. Willard Avenue and Downes Street, is replacing an existing station that was built in 1940. HRSD said the station needed to be relocated because the current site is too small for upgrades and expansion to accommodate future housing in Phoebus.

While Bainbridge Avenue is closed there will be a signed detour in place using West County, Libby and Cameron streets. HRSD estimates the project could take six to eight weeks.
