Hampton seeking feedback from residents and businesses on 20-year plan

Hampton wants to hear from residents and businesses about the future they envision for the city.

The next step of the city’s 2040 Community Plan is to break volunteers down into small groups to discuss key issues related to education, economic development and family resilience, which means helping families to overcome trauma. Groups will also be talking about how to keep the community safe and clean and how to combat sea level rise.

Volunteers need to be willing to commit to meeting with a steering group several times during the next few months.

The city is using the process to develop a five-year plan and a 20-year plan.

Previous plans have led to developments such as the Boo Williams Sportsplex and the transformation of the older indoor Coliseum Mall into Peninsula Town Center.

The first session will be at 6:30 p.m. on September 8 at the Hampton Coliseum. The city is asking interested individuals to register now and share their preferences on what parts of the plan they’d like to explore by visiting hampton.gov/hampton2040 or by calling 757-727-8311.
