NEWPORT NEWS — A man stabbed in a fight overnight Saturday has died, Newport News police said.
Police responded to a home in the 1000 block of 78th Street just before 1 a.m. and found a 61-year-old man with a stab wound. He died at the scene.
Police are investigating the incident as a homicide. Based on a preliminary investigation, police say the man was stabbed during an “altercation” with another individual who then fled on foot. The suspect was found nearby soon after and arrested.
No additional information was immediately available about the identity of the suspect, said Sarah Ketchum, a spokeswoman for the police department.
