The third and final day of Something in the Water has been canceled.
Because of the severe weather Sunday, festival organizers and Virginia Beach officials made the decision to call off the show around 6 p.m.
“No one wants to make this call, but we cannot predict nor negotiate with the weather tonight. It is our responsibility to ensure public safety above all else,” said City Manager Patrick Duhaney. “The City thanks the Something in the Water team, our public safety teams and City staff for their hard work this weekend under fluctuating weather conditions, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding of this difficult decision.”
Festival organizers said they will be refunding 33% of the base price of admission passes. They said refunds will be automatically processed beginning Monday and will take about 2 weeks.
Pharrell Williams, who started the festival four years ago, tweeted Sunday evening that the festival’s dates will be adjusted next year. The first day of the 2019 festival was a washout because of severe weather. Williams thanked several groups in the tweet, including those who traveled for the festival, the city of Virginia Beach, volunteers, vendors and law enforcement. His tweet read, in part:
“Dearest, Virginia. We are the best … The spirit here was felt everywhere! Next year we will shift the dates because this rain ain’t playing, but we will be! Next year, more acts, more merch, more food...just more!”
