Celebrating New Year’s Eve at home? Here are some virtual concerts and shows to ring it in like never before.

Post Malone will give a special midnight performance on New Year's Eve during Bud Light Seltzer Sessions New Year’s Eve 2021 virtual celebration.

It’s hard to recall a year that so many people desperately wanted to end more than 2020.

We’ve been through it all in the past 12 months. A deadly pandemic and endless social distancing. Economic downfall. A terrible election season that has outlasted the actual election.

And here comes New Year’s Eve, historically the night when people all over the world let their hair down and dance away their cares, celebrating the year to come and the sense of starting with a fresh slate.

Except, thanks to COVID restrictions, this holiday, too, will be like no other in recent memory.

You can’t buy a drink to toast with past 10 p.m., and bars and restaurants will have to shut down and kick out revelers before the ball drops.

It’s likely more people than ever will spend the evening at home, as we’re a bit short on public celebrations. It’s OK, though. There’s still plenty to do and ways to celebrate midnight’s arrival.

Don’t forget the best part of it all: We can still give 2020 the big ol’ goodbye.

Here are a few virtual events to help you push the year we wished never was right out the door.

Streamed from the Dogg’s home, the show will kick off at 11 p.m. and feature Bert Kreischer, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Nettles and professional wrestler Cody Rhodes. According to Variety, the show will feature music by DJ Cassidy, DJ Battlecat and Fredwreck and a special sword-swallowing stunt performed by “Go-Big Show” contestant Andrew Stanton.

For the first time in 113 years, Times Square will be nearly void of celebrators on Dec. 31. You can still watch the ball drop on TV as you always have on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” which will feature performances from Billy Porter, Cyndi Lauper, Nelly and headliner Jennifer Lopez. But there’s an all-new virtual element viewers can participate in this year by downloading the NYE2021 app on their smartphones.

The app promises to bring the Times Square experience to phones by letting participants visit a 2020 Remembrance Hall, visit an observation deck, take in performances from Alex Boyé, Chloe Gilligan and Armani White, and play games. Participants will also be able to collect confetti and earn points to customize virtual avatars. Check out the app’s trailer online at jamestownlp.com/virtual-new-years-eve-2021-video.
