As weather warms, find March restaurant week deals in Virginia Beach, Hampton, Suffolk

Diners enjoy an oceanfront view at Orion's Roof at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020.

As the first hints of spring weather make patio dining bearable or — heaven forefend! — maybe even comfortable, the train of restaurant week deals keeps rolling in multiple Hampton Roads cities, as local restaurant groups try to lure diners back out for meals.

Here’s the rundown of how to find some special meals and deals in March.

Hampton Restaurant Week

March 7-21, see restaurants and menus at visithampton.com/restaurantweek

As late as February, Hampton had not yet announced whether they were planning a 2021 restaurant week. But the menus are in, and at least 16 restaurants are aboard with $10 lunches, $20 dinners, and $30 multi-course meals. And for the first time, the restaurants will be offering takeout meals as part of the bargain.

Some spots — Charlotte’s Cafeteria, Mango Mangeaux, Bowman’s Soul in the Wall, Scratch Bakery, Got Fish? — are reprising similar meals to those served during Black Restaurant Week in February. If you liked it then, or missed out, you get another chance in March to get meal deals.

Others are new. This includes a four-course $20 pasta, appetizer, soup/salad and dessert meal at Mama Rosa; and the addition of two sides to a shrimp and grits dinner at The Grey Goose for basically the same price. Brown Chicken Brown Cow offers $30 family barbecue meals, and steep discounts on lunchtime mother cluckers and burgers. Monsoon Eclectic Modern Indian is also offering three-course dinners for $20 or $30, depending on how extravagant your tastes happen to be.

Let's Eat

Weekly

We're serving up restaurant reviews and news about the local food scene every week.

While the Virginia Beach restaurant week in January offered special menus, the restaurant month in Virginia Beach offers straight-up deals and discounts at participating restaurants all over the city.

Sign up for a Dine Pass using your mobile phone and get access to discounts. You also can enter to win prizes: Weekly winners might get three-day stays at area hotels, while daily winners get gift cards to various restaurants.

The meal deals keep it pretty simple: A goodly portion of restaurants are offering free desserts, or across-the-board discounts. The heftiest of these include 20% discounts at Laguna Bakery and the newly refounded Tiki’s Bar and Grill on Holland Road, or $10 off your bill at Saffron Indian Restaurant. The Bakers Crust will give you a free Neapolitan pizza with an entree, while rooftop spot Orion’s Roof will throw you a free appetizer if you get an entree.

Suffolk Restaurant Week

March 20-27, participating restaurants at dininginsuffolkva.com/restaurant-week.html

The most upscale of the March restaurant weeks or months will be in Suffolk, if early participants are any judge. Menus aren’t yet on the site, but the participants at press time include some of the swankier spots in the region. Those include the new Fin & Tonic and the restaurants from the M&M Hospitality Group, including Vintage Tavern and the River Stone Chop House.

Meals at those restaurants might range from a $15 premier lunch at Fin & Tonic, to a $40 “ultimate dinner” at River Stone. But at least one more casual spot has already signed on: Two locations of The Suffolk BBQ Co. will give you filling meals for a mere 10-spot.
