Virginia Beach’s final election results are in: City Council members John Moss, Linwood Branch are out

VIRGINIA BEACH — Remaining election ballots are finally counted in Virginia Beach, and two City Council members — John Moss and Linwood Branch — have lost their seats.

The closest race was in District 6, where Branch was trailing Worth Remick by nearly 200 votes on Election Night. Remick increased his lead by 31 votes Monday after the final after-election absentee and provisional ballots were tallied. Remick recorded 6,951; Branch got 6,725.

District 6 includes part of the resort area, the Seatack neighborhood and the North End.

The results will be certified Tuesday, according to Virginia Beach Registrar Christine Lewis.

Moss, who served on the City Council for a total of 18 years, conceded to opponent Joash Schulman for the District 9 seat the day after the election. Schulman won by 354 votes.

Sitting council members Barbara Henley and Rocky Holcomb were both reelected.

Newcomers Chris Taylor and Jennifer Rouse won along with Amelia Ross-Hammond, a former council member.
