The results are in, and a majority of Portsmouth voters elected Democrat Don Scott to represent the state’s 80th House District.

Scott defeated Republican Deanna Stanton to keep the seat he won in 2019. With all but one precinct reporting, Scott had 66% of the vote.

The 80th District has been strongly Democratic for more than three decades. Scott filled the seat two years ago after Gov. Ralph Northam appointed former Del. Matthew James to deputy director for the Department of General Services.

In his second term, Scott vowed he will fight to “build a Virginia that works for everyone.” His platform included issues on the commonwealth’s criminal justice system, affordable healthcare, the state’s economy and strengthening the public school system.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Scott raised around $278,440 for his campaign as of Oct. 21, and Stanton about $36,640.
