Want to serve on Norfolk’s City Council? You have until Monday to apply.

Registered voters who live in Norfolk's Superward 7 can apply now to fill the seat until a special election.

Norfolk — Norfolk’s seeking applicants to serve on the City Council until a special election can permanently fill the Superward 7 seat.

The post was recently vacated by Angelia Williams Graves, who won Tuesday’s special election for the 90th district House of Delegates seat.

Graves had been the areas’s representative on council since she won a special election in 2010. With her heading to Richmond, there are still 3½ years left in the term she won in May.

The council will appoint someone to hold the seat until an election date is set. Voters will pick the person to serve until the term expires in 2024.

Applicants must be a registered voter and live in Norfolk’s Superward 7. The superward covers about half the city, including and much of the east side, stretching Naval Station Norfolk to the far south and southeast of the city.

Those interested should send a letter of interest, resume, statement of qualifications and contact information to City Clerk Allan Bull by noon on Jan. 11.
