The three candidates running to become Chesapeake’s next top prosecutor will square off next month in a public forum.

And the bar association wants to hear what questions you have for them.

The candidates — City Councilman Matt Hamel, Shelly Fularon Wood and Paul R. Hedges — will outline their platforms and answer questions submitted by the public at 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Chesapeake Conference Center, 700 Conference Center Drive.

This is the first time in 16 years that the city will have a new top prosecutor come November. Longtime Commonwealth’s Attorney Nancy Parr is retiring at the end of the year, after four terms in office.

The Chesapeake Bar Association, which is hosting the event, is asking people to submit questions by emailing them to ChesapeakeCWAForum@gmail.com. Questions selected for the forum will be read anonymously.
