Driver flees after hitting 3 pedestrians, killing 1, in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — A woman died and two others were injured Friday in a hit-and-run crash in the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue, police said Monday.

The crash happened about 8:10 p.m., and the three victims — two adults and a child — were pedestrians, police spokeswoman Victoria Varnedoe wrote in an email Monday afternoon.

The three people were taken to a hospital, where the woman died.

Police did not identify the woman. However, a relative identified her as Connie Damond on a GoFundMe page to raise funeral expenses.

Three days after the hit-and-run, police have not said what led up to the crash or described the circumstances of what happened. Varnedoe did not provide an update on the conditions of the other two victims. Police also have not said how the three people are related, or how old the child is.
