1-year-old girl shot in Portsmouth, but expected to live. Police are still looking for the shooter.

PORTSMOUTH — A toddler was shot and a woman was grazed by a bullet Sunday night when someone shot at them from another car in Portsmouth’s Mount Hermon neighborhood.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., police were called to the 1300 block of Watson Street, where a 21-month-old girl had been shot in the upper body, police wrote in a news release Monday. The child’s injury is “no longer life-threatening,” according to police.

A 23-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet but refused treatment, police said.

The woman and toddler were in a vehicle turning from High Street onto Watson Street when someone in a silver four-door vehicle with 30-day temporary tags began shooting at them, according to detectives.
