Man dies 8 days after assault in Newport News nightclub; suspect arrested

NEWPORT NEWS — A 36-year-old man has died of his injuries following an assault in a Newport News bar and restaurant.

The assault happened in the early morning hours of Aug. 3 at Triple Effectz Ultra Lounge, located in the 400 block of Denbigh Boulevard, according to Newport News police. Police were called to the lounge for a report of an unconscious person at 1:41 a.m.

At the scene, officers found Justin Michael Dudney, of Newport News, had been assaulted. No weapons were involved in the assault, a police spokesperson said.

Xavier Demonye Bonilla, 27, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in connection with an assault in a Newport News bar and restaurant.

Dudney was taken to a local hospital and died from his injuries Thursday, police said.

A representative for Triple Effectz could not be immediately reached for comment Friday afternoon.
