Motorcyclist hit by car after striking deer in Isle of Wight County, dies at scene

A motorcyclist struck a deer Saturday night and was then hit by a car, according to state police.

Police responded to the fatal motorcycle crash on Joyners Bridge Road in Isle of Wight County.

Investigators say 43-year-old Scott Leggett Woolard, III, was traveling at “a high rate of speed” on a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he ran into a deer. Woodward was thrown from the motorcycle.

Police say Woolard was lying in the roadway when he was struck by a 2010 Audi A5 traveling in the same direction. He died at the scene.

Police said the Chesapeake man driving the Audi, Anthony P. Brown, was not injured.

State police say the crash is still under investigation and have not announced any charges.
