Sentara Healthcare has launched a new website that allows people to schedule their own coronavirus vaccine appointments.
With access to shots dramatically increasing because of more supplies and expanded eligibility, it’s perhaps one more sign of how far the vaccine rollout has come.
The site, www.sentara.com/vaccineclinic, gives residents the chance to view and schedule first-dose shots at upcoming clinics run by the health care system.
After getting the initial shot, Sentara will send confirmation emails to recipients the week of their second shots, notifying them of their follow-up appointments. In the case of a scheduling conflict, an individual will have options to reschedule.
Anyone age 16 or older can schedule shots, regardless of whether they’re Sentara patients. A parent or legal guardian is required to go with 16- and 17-year-olds, who are eligible to receive only the Pfizer vaccine. A consent form would be signed at the check-in for those teens.
The website will display information on Sentara’s upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics, with the schedule updated on a weekly basis. Once each clinic reaches capacity, registration will close and the link to schedule will be de-activated.
People without internet or an email address also can register for a Sentara clinic by calling 1-833-887-6943, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
