Additional clinics in Norfolk and Virginia Beach will offer COVID-19 vaccines to people without appointments

Dr. Pat Raymond administers the second dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to Lauren Firestone at vaccination clinic inside the former Macy's department store at Military Circle Mall Thursday afternoon March 25, 2021.

Norfolk will offer Pfizer vaccines to people without pre-scheduled appointments in the Campostella neighborhood on Saturday.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., residents 16 and older are welcome to register on-site and receive the vaccine at the Southside STEM Academy, 1106 Campostella Road.

The clinic will be run by the Norfolk Health Department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which also is operating the clinic at Military Circle Mall.

Over the past week, residents also have been allowed to get shots at the mall and Scope Arena without scheduling appointments.

Starting Monday, Virginia Beach also will begin offering limited same-day COVID-19 vaccinations at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St., said Ed Brazle, Emergency Medical Services Chief and Incident Commander for the vaccination clinic.

Residents age 18 and older can show up between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday to receive the Moderna vaccine for the next two weeks, said Laurie Shaw, senior nurse manager for the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health.

“Now that the supply has improved, we want to offer walk-up registration, not only to simplify the process for folks who have been struggling with registration because of problems with technology or access to the Internet, but to make it convenient for people to just stop by and get vaccinated,” Brazle said. “The slots for walk-up registrants will be available on a first come, first served basis, however, anyone who comes in to schedule an appointment will, at minimum, be scheduled for another clinic if a same-day vaccination is not available.”

More information about the state’s vaccination efforts can be found at vaccinate.virginia.gov or by calling 1-877-829-4682.

The website is expected to begin allowing residents to schedule same-day appointments soon.
