We bowed our heads. Lowered our flags. Inhaled deeply as the bells tolled Wednesday.

Eighteen years since the morning a band of terrorists hijacked our skies and our security, and we stared at our TVs trying to understand what was happening.

Eighteen years since nearly 3,000 of our people were killed in minutes, on our own soil, by an enemy most of us didn’t know we even had.

Eighteen years since the unthinkable became reality, burned into our daily lives.

On Sept. 11, 2019, we remembered the lost. The still suffering. The end of innocence.

We said our prayers. We pondered the worst in mankind and honored the best.

We did what we’ve done for 18 years.

We squared our shoulders.
