1 person, more than a dozen cats displaced from one townhome after Virginia Beach fire

More than a dozen cats were rescued from a fire in a Virginia Beach townhome on Sunday.

According to the Virginia Beach Fire Department, firefighters responded to the blaze in the 3300 block of Lakecrest Road at about 1:30 p.m. The fire in a second-story bedroom burned until 2:01 p.m. Crews were cleared at 3:08 p.m.

In total, 14 cats lived in the townhome, and 13 were saved. One of the cats died in the blaze, and one person has been displaced from the home. VBFD has determined that the fire was accidental and likely caused by electrical equipment.
