Police investigating Chesapeake woman’s death after she was found ‘unresponsive’ on East Little Creek Road in Norfolk

A woman died after she was found unresponsive in a portion of East Little Creek Road on Saturday in Norfolk.

Norfolk — Police are investigating a woman’s death after her body was found Saturday on East Little Creek Road in Norfolk.

Dispatchers received a call around 4:50 a.m. on about a person in the 700 block of East Little Creek Road, off Tidewater Drive, according to a news release Tuesday.

The woman was unresponsive when officers arrived, and taken to a local hospital in critical condition. She died Sunday evening because of her injuries, according to Sgt. William Pickering, a department spokesperson.

Police identified the woman as Angela R. Joyner, 51. It is unclear how Joyner died. The department did not respond to requests about whether officials know how Joyner ended up in the roadway.

Joyner’s “official manner and cause of death” will be determined by the Tidewater Chief Medical Examiner, the release said.
