Person dies in Knotts Island mobile home fire

KNOTTS ISLAND, N.C. — An unidentified person died in a Knotts Island mobile home fire early Thursday.

The Knotts Island Volunteer Fire Department responded to the residence engulfed in flames at 8:10 a.m. on Porchard Lane in the Sandy Point mobile home community, according to a release from Currituck County.

Firefighters found the victim shortly after bystanders told them someone was still inside, the release said. No information about the victim, including their gender or name, was released Thursday. The fire was under control in about 10 minutes.

Virginia Beach firefighters and Currituck emergency medical services also responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
