Hampton — Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that killed a 50-year-old man and injured another Tuesday in Hampton.
Dispatchers received a call around 4:30 a.m. about a crash near LaSalle Avenue and Settlers Landing Road, according to a news release.
A preliminary investigation showed the vehicle was traveling “at a high rate of speed” when the driver lost control. The vehicle stuck a curb and overturned onto unleveled ground, the release said.
Officers found Lionel A. Toliver, of Newport News, and a 54-year-old man, trapped inside the vehicle.
Both were taken to a local hospital with injuries considered life-threatening. Toliver died at the hospital because of his injuries.
