Connecticut man at his son’s wedding killed crossing N.C. 12 on Outer Banks

SOUTHERN SHORES, N.C. — A Connecticut man attending his son’s wedding was struck and killed Friday on N.C. 12 in Southern Shores.

Roger Henry Ouellette, 65, died after he was struck by a vehicle headed north at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to a release from the Southern Shores Police Department.

Ouellette’s family crossed the highway at a designated walkway at the intersection of Chicahauk Trail and N.C. 12. Traffic was stopped during a red light and pedestrian sign signaled to cross, according to the release.

He and his wife followed after the pedestrian sign signaled no crossing and the traffic light had turned green. He waited for one car to pass, but was struck by the next car, the release said. His wife was just ahead of him and was not harmed.

The family was in Southern Shores for Ouellette’s son’s wedding, the release said.

Police determined the driver from Maryland who struck Ouellete was not speeding or drinking alcohol. There are no charges expected.
