Hampton’s Connor Hall sweeps twin Late Model features at Langley Speedway

Connor Hall, shown on April 8 while winning this season's first Late Model race at Langley Speedway, won two more Saturday night.

Connor Hall swept to victory in both Late Model twin 50-lap featured races Saturday night at Langley Speedway in his hometown of Hampton.

Hall now drives regularly on the CARS Tour, but he occasionally returns to Langley, where he developed his driving skills. He showed plenty of them Saturday night.

In the opener, he defeated three-time defending champion Brenden Queen — now alongside Hall among the “Touring 12″ on the CARS Tour — by 1.305 seconds over 50 laps in a race that took more than 29 minutes.

Nick Smith was third, 4.170 seconds off the lead. Twelve of the 16 competitors finished on the lead lap.

In the encore, Hall overcame runner-up Greg Edwards by 479-thousandths of a second in a much shorter race, about 14 minutes and 20 seconds. Queen was third, 2.707 seconds behind, and Danny Edwards, Greg’s brother, was fourth.

Again, 12 drivers finished on the lead lap.

In other races Saturday:

Virginia Racers: Jacob Derrick prevailed over 50 laps in less than 19 minutes, defeating Ryley Music by 396-thousandths of a second. Cody Bryant placed third, 1.550 seconds behind Derrick, after winning the division’s previous two events.

Enduro: Cody Bryant won a 30-lapper in about 10 minutes, while his father, Charlie, was 3.720 seconds behind as the runner-up. Alex Floroff was a distant third among 20 drivers, just six of whom finished on the lead lap.

Champ Kart: Fans saw Ryan Hudgins capture a 20-lap victory with about as close a margin as possible, seven-thousandths of a second, over Dannie Wyatt in a race that took more than 10 minutes.

But after inspection, Wyatt was dropped to last place (12th) in the field after winning the division’s previous race. Jeffrey Johnson, 550-thousandths of a second behind Hudgins, moved up to second, with Cullen Roberts third, 0.630 off the lead.

Super Street: Gordon Weeks III zoomed to a 40-lap victory in just more than 22 minutes, outrunning Sammy Gaita by 2.317 seconds. Dale Nichols was third, 3.165 behind the victor, as 11 of the 12 competitors finished on the lead lap.

Super Truck: Hunter Waltrip prevailed among 12 drivers, winning a 25-lap race by 0.338 of a second over Chris Roberts. The other previous victor this year, Jacob Carr, was a distant third, 3.604 off the pace. The race took more than 15 minutes and had seven lead-lap finishers.

Pro Six: Just five drivers entered a 25-lap race, and as usual, reigning division champion Travis Wall led them. He cruised to a 4.825-second triumph over Atley Wiese in a race that took about 10 1/2 minutes.
