Norfolk Tides hit three home runs, including a walk-off blast by Ben DeLuzio, to open series against Gwinnett

Daz Cameron hit a pair of homers and drove in six runs and Cole Irvin improved to 6-1 with Norfolk as the Tides defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 8-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday at Harbor Park.

The second game was in progress at press time.

The Tides (37-15) took a 2-0 series lead and extended their lead in the International League’s East Division to eight games.

Cameron hit a two-run shot in the first inning, added a three-run homer in the third and hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Irvin did the rest, limiting the Stripers (22-30) to two runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out three and walked none.

Ofreidy Gómez gave up a run in the seventh inning to close it out.

Jordan Westburg hit an RBI double and Mark Kolozsvary worked a bases-loaded walk to account for the Tides’ other runs.

The teams will play again at 12:05 p.m. today.

Late Tuesday

Tides 9, Stripers 7: Ben DeLuzio’s two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning capped the Norfolk Tides’ come-from-behind victory over Gwinnett in the opener of a six-game series.

The Tides trailed 7-6 after the first five innings, but Lewin Díaz led off the ninth with a solo home run, and DeLuzio hit a one-out homer to give Norfolk its third walk-off victory of the season.

Norfolk’s Jordan Westburg hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Shayne Fontana finished with two hits and two RBIs.

DL Hall started for the Tides and allowed one earned run over three innings. He struck out two, walked two and allowed three hits.
