A look at the Norfolk Tides as they return home Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand against the Syracuse Mets, the top affiliate of the New York Mets.
Norfolk’s record: 28-10
New in town: Outfielder Kyle Stowers was optioned back to Norfolk from Baltimore on Monday after batting 2 for 26 in a short stint with the Orioles. Stowers — the Baltimore organization’s No. 8 prospect according to Baseball America — spent most of April with Norfolk, batting .293 with five home runs. He rejoins a Norfolk team that has the best overall record in baseball.
In the Syracuse dugout: Outfielder DJ Stewart should know his way around Harbor Park. Stewart, a former first-round draft pick (25th overall) by Baltimore, played in more than 200 games with the Tides from 2018-22 while in the Orioles’ organization. Stewart, 29, signed with the Mets in February and is batting .181 in 21 games this season with the Chiefs (16-23).
