New in town: Pitcher Grayson Rodriguez, one of the Baltimore Orioles’ top prospects, headed back to Norfolk over the weekend after an up-and-down stint in the major leagues. Rodriguez, the Orioles’ No. 11 overall draft pick in 2018, was optioned to the Tides after compiling a 7.35 ERA in 10 starts with Baltimore. Rodriguez made one start with Norfolk early this season before heading to the Orioles.

In the Gwinnett dugout: AJ Smith-Shawver, regarded as the Braves’ No. 4 prospect, made his Triple-A debut earlier this month. The right-hander, 20, is 2-1 with a 1.09 ERA in seven minor league starts this season — with 45 strikeouts in 33 innings.
