Flash flood warning in effect for parts of Peninsula, Chesapeake and Virginia Beach

Flash flood warnings are in effect for Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and parts of the Peninsula Wednesday evening.

The flash flood warnings means flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.

The warning in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach remains in effect until 7:45 p.m. On the Peninsula, the warning — which affects York County, Hampton, Newport News and Poquoson — is in effect until 7 p.m.

People in those areas should avoid driving or walking through flooded roadways and move immediately to higher ground.
