Chance of severe thunderstorms, hail in parts of Hampton Roads

The National Weather Service in Wakefield is warning of potential severe weather this afternoon and evening.

Strong storms could be headed to Hampton Roads on Tuesday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield is warning of a potential for severe weather and heavy rainfall from 2 to 10 p.m.. Most of the region is under a marginal risk of isolated severe thunderstorms, but the threat is lower in eastern portions of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.

Hazards include a potential for 40-60 mph wind gusts and a chance of large hail.

After 4 p.m., the weather service is predicting more widespread showers with a possibility for heavy rainfall and localized flooding in urban or poor drainage areas. Rainfall is expected to be between 1-2 inches. Some areas may receive more.
