Kendall Warner is a photographer with The Virginian-Pilot and joined the team in 2022. She a native of the commonwealth, born and raised in Northern Virginia, and is a 2019 graduate of Western Kentucky University's photojournalism program. Her passions include her cats, bearded dragon, plants, antiques and local coffee shops.

Family members, loved ones and members of the community came together at Neptune's Park in Virginia Beach, Va. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 to remember the 12 people who lost their lives when a gunman opened fire in a municipal building on Friday, May 31, 2019. The family members and friends of the victims use the phrase “we fly together” as a way to stay strong and remember their loved ones and doves were released to represent each life lost.

Erica Walker, 40, lives in her Chesapeake, Va. home with her two sons and one daughter. Walker has been applying for the Housing Choice Voucher program unsuccessfully for years and was recently laid off.

The Fred Heutte Center, which used to be a ticket house for the ferries coming into Norfolk where Waterside currently sits, is surrounded by the Botetourt Gardens. Members of the community are making an effort to restore and preserve the historic building and return the gardens to how Fred Heutte originally envisioned.
