One man was killed and two men were injured in a Thursday night shooting in Newport News, according to a release from Newport News police.

Discussions and plans around a potential merger have been going on for several years, with varying results. The new institution would be called The Eastern Virginia Health Sciences Center at Old Dominion University.

Virginia State Police are investigating an early morning crash in York County that left three dead and multiple injured on Interstate 64.

No injuries have been reported but the fire was causing traffic delays as the Jordan Bridge was closed to traffic.

The investigation into the killing was launched after one person who helped move the concealed body out of a Virginia Beach hotel tipped off hotel management, according to prosecutors.

The owner and operator of Richard’s General Services, Richard J. Rosser, II, 49, “grossly inflated” the number of people employed by his business and the average monthly payroll in order to obtain pandemic loans he was not legally entitled to, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Jamal R. Cannon has been a person of interest in the homicide investigation since February.
